Particularly in case of chronic bronchitis the additional signs noticed are blue-tinged lips (indicative of low oxygen level), Swelling of ankle, feet and leg on both sides, recurrent respiratory infections such as flu or colds, reddish cheeks and reddish palms, face or mucus membranes. In chronic bronchitis cough is noticed for the three consecutive months and run for 2 years. Alternative therapy is very much useful for the treatment of bronchitis. The alternative treatments are dietary considerations, acupuncture, physical medicine and massage. As diet restriction, the acute bronchitis patient should take on all-fruit diet for two or three days. These patients should avoid orange juice till the symptoms subside completely. In chronic cases, the patient should be kept on seeds, nuts, raw vegetables, grains and fresh fruits. As a drink they can take unsweetened lemon juice and hot water only. Acupuncturists locate the qi in various meridians. In bronchitis, the needling treatment is focused on lung and spleen area. A specialized massage, moxibustion- a new technique of burning an herb mugwort in specific acupuncture points is performed to cure the condition. Castor oil, eucalyptus, pine and thyme oil are used to ease bronchial spasm and thin mucus.
